Swachha Bharat Mission (SBM) was launched in 2014 to ensure healthy India. This mission envisages universal sanitisation by providing pour-flush type toilette, eradicating manual scavenging, creating waste management infrastructure and sewage treatment. Our Prime Minister has vision to render sustainable solution to grass root level health issues.
In this direction, administrative machinery at district and panchayat level worked hard and achieved around 93 percent of sanitation coverage.
It is indeed an important milestone in the journey of SBM, because it has directly addressed rural poverty and economic upliftment through sanitary measures. It has brought in attitudinal and behavioural changes in people.
It is working towards making sanitation a habit. This will ensure our journey on right track of sustainable development goals.

However there are still lot to be achieved. There are around 100s of death due to manual scavenging. It is blot on humanity. Many tier1, tier 2 cities are lacking in waste treatment infrastructure.
This mission of universal sanitation will remain incomplete without these ground level changes. Lax attitude due to poverty, limited financial resources with urban bodies are some of the deterrents.

Conclusion
Despite all this, SBM community participation deserves applaud. Baring some incidents in the initial phase, people now started realising imporatance of sanitation.
Even though we are slowly moving in the right direction, I am optimistic of achieving complete sanitation by 2022.
